As part of our residency at Allenheads Contemporary Arts we are hosting two exciting night time events. These events are part of the BEYOND project in partnership with the North Pennines Observatory @ ACA www.acart.org.uk/beyond www.northpennobservatory.org.uk

Full Moon at the Cosmic Pond
Tues 29 May 19.30 – 22.30

Astronomer and Cosmologist Fred Stevenson will give a talk on the extraordinary characteristics and unsolved mysteries of the Moon.

Experience the sounds of nature under the full Moon with artists Sarah Sparkes and Ian Thompson who will introduce you to The Cosmic Pond, an exploration of the soundscapes around and within Allenheads reservoir. Discover the influence of the lunar cycle on the natural world and the moon’s significance in myth and folklore. There will be an opportunity to make your own recordings , including underwater sounds with the aid of hydrophones.

Equipment provided. Suitable for adults and children 12 or over accompanied by adults. There will be some walking on uneven ground so wear walking shoes/ boots or wellingtons.

Price includes hot drinks and cake.

Experience the changing soundscapes around Allenheads reservoir at sunset, through the night and again at dawn.

Artists Sarah Sparkes and Ian Thompson will introduce their project, an exploration of the soundscapes around Allenheads reservoir. You can make your own recordings or relax on the observatory deck listening to live underwater sound from the reservoir. You will also have an opportunity to explore the North Pennines Observatory and learn about tracking the night sky.

Expert Talk by one of the region’s best known ornithologist, Keith Bowey, who will talk us through the evening’s birdsong and night calls.

Join us at sunset and stay all through the night for an unforgetable experience star gazing and Cosmic Pond listening at the North Pennines Observatory. There will be a Cosmic breakfast* for those who make it until dawn.

Equipment provided. Suitable for adults and children 12 or over accompanied by adults. There will be some walking on uneven ground so wear walking shoes/ boots or wellingtons.

You are welcome to bring a small tent or pop up shelter .

Price includes hot drinks and snacks.

*Cosmic breakfast for those who stay ’til dawn £3 on the day.
